A new dental clinic has opened in Alumim. The dental clinic began operation during the summer, thanks to the Weinstock Family Foundation which donated all the equipment and the Fellowship Fund which sponsored the operating costs of the clinic during the summer.
It took many months of red tape until we finally received official permission to open the clinic, so that we could hold the inauguration.
Dr. Ina Ivanovna, a specialist in pediatric dentistry, comes twice a week to the clinic to perform routine examinations and provide dental treatment.
During the summer months over two hundred children who participated in Alumim′s summer programs were examined and treated at the clinic. Each group of children had a brief workshop during which they learned about oral hygiene and taking care of their teeth. Each child who was examined or treated at the clinic received a written report on the state of his teeth, with recommendations for further treatment if necessary.
Fortunately, all the children who came to be examined also managed to get the necessary follow-up treatments. The dentist also treated toddlers who had come to the summer programs with their parents.
Both parents who were present themselves and those who heard about the treatments from their children were grateful for the opportunity. Several of them phoned or wrote letters of gratitude and it seems that the project achieved its goal this summer.
Now the clinic is settling into an ongoing work schedule. All the children of Alumim are getting regular high-quality dental care. In addition, we allow for other Jewish children of Zhitomir to come and be treated at the clinic for a minimal, subsidized fee. Alumim′s employees also take advantage of the services of the clinic, and are listed amongst the patients.
