A Summer of Joy, Jewish Pride, and New Adventures

For the children of Zhytomyr and the surrounding region, summer brings the opportunity to discover new places, build friendships, and enjoy the warmth of Jewish community life.

With summer camps for boys and girls, day camps, overnight camps, and a wonderful variety of trips and activities, the community’s summer programs give children something special to look forward to. Days filled with adventure, creativity, learning, and laughter create memories that accompany them long after the summer ends.

Around 150 boys and 100 girls are enjoying an unforgettable camp experience in the Carpathian Mountains, filled with peace, joy, and renewed strength. Surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and caring staff, the children have the opportunity to recharge, form lasting friendships, and strengthen their Jewish identity.

For children growing up amid the uncertainty of war in Ukraine, these experiences carry particular meaning. A chance to play, explore, and spend time with counselors and friends offers welcome relief and a renewed sense of belonging. Through shared experiences and Jewish activities, children from across the region strengthen their connection to their heritage and to one another.

That same spirit guides the summer program for the children of Alumim Children’s Center in Israel. An exciting summer of outings and discovery awaits them, with trips throughout Israel, visits to Jewish heritage sites, and activities that combine enjoyment with meaningful experiences.

For children who have experienced displacement and difficult family circumstances, exploring Israel is also an opportunity to deepen their roots. Visiting places connected to Jewish history helps bring their heritage to life and strengthens their connection to the land they now call home.

Alongside these meaningful visits, there will be plenty of time for fun, friendship, and the simple happiness of being a child. Each outing offers another opportunity to try something new, gain confidence, and return with a story to share.

In Zhytomyr and in Israel, the goal is shared: to give children a joyful summer that leaves them feeling cared for, encouraged, and ready for the year ahead.
