Remembering the Martyrs of Zhytomyr

These days carry deep sorrow for our community. In 1941, the Jews of Zhytomyr were cruelly murdered, leaving behind a wound that can never fully heal. Entire families, entire neighborhoods, were taken from us -their only “crime” was being Jewish.

We came together to pray, to recite Kaddish, and to ask that their holy souls be elevated. Each prayer, each tear, is our promise that they will never be forgotten.

We are especially grateful to our dear friend, Alex Goldis, who has taken upon himself the responsibility of continuing the restoration of the eight mass graves in Zhytomyr. His dedication is not only an act of remembrance but also a gift to the future-ensuring that our children and grandchildren will have a place to connect, to mourn, and to learn.

May the memory of the martyrs of Zhytomyr be for a blessing, and may we continue to honor them through acts of goodness, kindness, and Jewish life.
